You know when you're in Middletown, Ohio. This is the place with glorious past, located between Dayton and Cincinnati. Miami University has a satellite campus here, and the town is famous for being inclusive to refugees and immigrants. My family and I made our way to Middletown just to visit SoulCraft, a new fair-trade and local goods only shops, located in front of a woodworking workshop. This is a shop with double-sword mission, to local economic development and global women empowerment. Every ten percent of the proceed of this shop is donated to local charities. The items sold in this shop is only sourced from local artists and ethically and sustainably sourced goods from all over the world. The owner, curator, and mastermind of this place is Lauren Matus. She's an accomplished community builder and development professional currently working for the Middletown Community Foundation.
Throughout the year, SoulCraft and other downtown merchants organize festivals and events in downtown Middletown. You may want to stop by and visit sometimes. Visit them on facebook: https://www.facebook.com/SoulCraftMiddletown/?fref=ts
